Self-dependence on God
John 15:5 “for apart from me you can do nothing.” ESV
The Lord is my shepherd. It is true. Every day, I pray for the Lord’s mercies and for His blessing of the Holy Spirit’s guidance in my life and as I help others navigate the challenges in their lives. In John chapter 15, the Lord reminds all of us that we can do nothing apart from him.
Of course, people have success apart from God every day. However, we have no idea what that success cost them when God is not in the center of their lives. So, if you want to debate you may. I will not debate it with you. I will only assure you that as a believer in Jesus Christ, I will be obedient in my faith in Him. I feel most at peace with God as my guide and my counselor.
As a professional counselor, I depend on the Holy Spirit of God to help me help others.
I have had many people share with me the abuses they have experienced by people claiming to be Godly people. People say to me such things as:
“I depended on God and God didn’t help me.”
“I asked God and He didn’t answer me.”
“I trusted God and I was hurt by harmful people.”
“I trusted “Godly” people and I was misled.”
“God’s word has been weaponized against me by people that are supposed to be trustworthy.”
“I have been asking God and still my life is so hard.”
“I trusted God and He has not provided.”
So many versions of disappointment and hurt have been assigned to God by people who are hurting, disappointed, and even angry. I am sorry for the disappointments, the abuse, and the traumatic experiences you have encountered. I share in them with you.
I have had to work through many of the above statements for myself. It is through the working through my own trauma, pain, disappointment, frustrations, and even anger that has led me to a greater understanding of God and evil.
It is my commitment to the people I serve in Germantown, TN and Oxford, MS to be thoughtful, compassionate, and hold safe space while you work through the why and what questions that arise in the process of healing from harmful experiences and relationships.
